Frequently Asked Questions

Are SLP services covered by OHIP?

No, private speech-language pathology (SLP) services are not covered by OHIP. However, if your child is of school age and is enrolled in a public school, they may be eligible for speech therapy services provided by the school board. If your child is of preschool age, they may be eligible to receive government-funded services through the preschool speech and language program agency within your area.

Does insurance cover SLP services?

Most insurance plans cover pediatric SLP services, but it's important to check with your insurance provider to determine your specific coverage. We do not provide direct billing to insurance providers. At the end of each session, you will be emailed a receipt which you can submit to your insurance company. They will then reimburse you.

What are your rates?

Our fees are determined based on the Ontario Speech and Language Association (OSLA) fee schedule suggestions. Please contact us for more information about our fees.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

You do not need a doctor's referral to see a private speech-language pathologist (SLP). You can contact a SLP directly to schedule an assessment, treatment sessions, or a consultation.

Where are you located?

We are conveniently located right across the street from Davisville subway station at 1849 Yonge Street, Unit 914, in the midtown area of Toronto.

What are your payment methods?

We accept payment via credit card (VISA, Mastercard) and e-transfer. Payment is due at the time of appointment.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require a minimum of 24 hours’ notice of all cancellations except for emergency situations. All cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged 100% of the service fee. If frequent cancellations, no-shows, or late payments occur, your therapist has the right to discontinue services. All appointments will be held for up to 2 consecutive weeks.

How often and how long are sessions?

The frequency of therapy sessions will depend on your child's individual needs, which are determined after an assessment is completed. Therapy sessions are typically 30-60 minutes long.

How long does an assessment take?

The length of an assessment varies; however, it is typically one hour of direct assessment, which includes your child’s engagement in a variety of play activities as well as a parent report. SLP will observe your child’s speech, language, communication, and play skills during these activities and determine their strengths and areas of need. They will then identify individualized goals of treatment and/or recommend involvement of other professionals if necessary. Depending on your child’s needs, the SLP may use standardized assessment tools.

What does “therapeutic hour” mean?

The therapeutic hour is a standard length for therapy sessions, typically lasting 50-55 minutes for an hour session, 35-40 minutes for a 45-minute session, and 20-25 minutes for a 30-minute session. The extra 5-10 minutes is allocated to debriefing with the caregiver, preparation, and clean-up.

What ages do you treat?

Any child from 0 to 18 years old.
